The Adam Scott collaboration. The OZ.1 is L.A.B. Golf's first tour-inspired mallet — a half-moon profile, 100% CNC-milled from a single block of aluminium for the soft, muted feel L.A.B. is known for, and engineered around the Lie Angle Balance technology that keeps the face square through every stroke.
L.A.B. had always wanted to build a tour-inspired putter. Tour players operate at a different level when it comes to sensitivities around shape and feel — it makes sense that the very best players in the world ask for something a little more bespoke. The timing was right, too: by early 2023, L.A.B. had come to understand Lie Angle Balance at a depth that unlocked far more design freedom than ever before. So they asked their friend Adam Scott if he'd like to collaborate. Rumour has it there was a small dance when he said yes.
The OZ.1 design process started over a pint with Adam Scott, who offered two pieces of feedback. Adam has a fondness for the back end of a certain high-performance German sports car, and that's where the rear of the putter took its cues. For the front, he asked L.A.B. to reimagine one of the most famous mallet putters of all time. The first prototype interpreted both quite literally. Adam liked the direction, but encouraged L.A.B.'s engineers to be more creative with the brief. Many prototypes and conversations later, the OZ.1 was born.
The OZ.1 is L.A.B.'s first half-moon style mallet, and the solid-body construction — no large holes, no fangs — felt incredible from the very first prototype. L.A.B. spent a great deal of time fine-tuning the putter to make it the most "normal" mallet they've ever produced in terms of sound and feel, while preserving the off-centre forgiveness their mallets are famous for. The OZ.1 is fully milled from a single block of aluminium with no face insert, giving it the soft, muted feel players love about the DF3. If you've ever picked up a L.A.B. putter and thought "this is exactly the feel I want at impact" — that's the OZ.1.
Like every L.A.B. putter, the OZ.1 is 100% Lie Angle Balanced. The patented technology keeps the face square to the path through the entire stroke, regardless of how the putter is built — length, lie, head weight, shaft, grip, the physics still hold. The face doesn't torque open going back or shut coming through. You stop fighting the putter and start making strokes.
The OZ.1 and OZ.1i are identical in size and shape — the only difference is the face. The OZ.1 is one-piece all-aluminium, giving you the softer, more muted feel L.A.B. has historically been known for. The OZ.1i adds a 303 stainless steel face insert for a firmer feel and faster ball speeds. Both are 100% Lie Angle Balanced, both are equally forgiving, and both share the half-moon mallet profile. It comes down to which feel you prefer at impact.
The OZ.1 is L.A.B.'s first mallet to offer a 0° (vertical) shaft lean option, alongside the traditional 2° lean. The 2° option stays true to L.A.B.'s heritage and pairs with the L.A.B. Press Grip — the brand's signature setup, and the same lean as the DF3. The 0° option is designed for players who prefer to see a vertical shaft at address and want to use a standard grip on a L.A.B. mallet. Players choosing 0° should not use a Press Grip; players choosing 2° should pair with one.
The most important aspect of every L.A.B. Golf putter is determining the optimal lie angle for your stroke. The OZ.1 offers L.A.B.'s full range of custom options — length, lie angle, head weight, colour, alignment marking, shaft, shaft lean and grip — so the putter is built for you and only you. If you already own a L.A.B. putter and you're happy with the fit, simply order to the same specifications. If this is your first L.A.B., the configurator will walk you through every choice.
The OZ.1 is for the player who wants a tour-inspired mallet shape, the soft and muted feel of an all-aluminium L.A.B. face, and the freedom to choose between traditional 2° lean and modern 0° vertical setups. If you're a DF3 player who's ever wished for a mallet shape with a touch more tour pedigree behind the ball, this is the model.
