The i540 is Ping’s players distance iron and one of the newest sets to come through our second hand racks. It gives you a compact, blade style look behind the ball with a covered cavity for a clean finish, but the technology inside is aimed squarely at speed and stopping power.

A forged, variable thickness maraging steel face is nine percent thinner than the previous model, so it flexes more at impact and produces the sort of rebound you would normally associate with a fairway wood. Tungsten sole weighting in the 4 to 7 irons drops the centre of gravity for higher launch and a steeper descent into greens. Ping’s inR-Air technology places an air pocket behind the face to soften unwanted frequencies, with an internal i-Beam adding structure to the stainless body.
